dated April 9, 1958: Annual Defence report

According to the annual report of the Ministry of Defence, the armed forces of India — the Army, the Navy and the Air Force — have continued to maintain a very high standard of morale and efficiency. Several administrative and organisational measures have been taken to improve the operational efficiency of the Services. The report says that production of several important items of defence stores has been stepped up during the year resulting in a considerable saving of foreign exchange of over Rs. 2 crores. A separate organisation for research and development has been created under the Scientific Adviser to the Ministry of Defence.
