dated April 9, 1958: Suez Canal project

The World Bank will help Egypt undertake studies into the possibility of increasing the capacity of the Suez Canal, it was announced in Cairo on April 7. Mr. Eugene Black, President of the Bank, told reporters after a meeting with President Nasser that the Bank would undertake some of the studies necessary in co-operation with the Canal Authority. He stressed that the objective of the Bank’s technical assistance was to help in all possible ways so that the Suez Canal could handle the maximum business.
