Port Trust plans food park, SEZ

R. Vimal Kumar

Tuticorin: The Tuticorin Port Trust plans to set up a port-based Food Park, Logistics Park, Special Economic Zone and develop Zone B (old port) during the 11th Five Year Plan period to give value addition to maritime trade, according to its chairman K. Suresh.

Speaking to The Hindu here on Tuesday, he said feasibility studies for the projects would be carried out during this fiscal on a total outlay of Rs.2 crore.

The proposed Food Park would house common facilities required to process food items, which would fetch better unit value to exporters.

The Logistics Park (also to be known as free trade and warehousing zone) would consist of trade-related infrastructure such as warehouses, cold storages, state of the art equipment, transportation and handling facilities, commercial office space and modern communication network.

The proposed SEZ, to come up on an area of 125 acres, would serve as an engine for economic growth.
