Euro-Asian conference held in Bangalore

Special Correspondent

Bangalore: The International School of Business and Media (ISB&M) held its fourth Euro-Asian conference in Bangalore on Monday. Nearly 50 delegates participated in the conference which focussed on developing and managing collaborations between educational institutions in India and in Europe. A significant proportion of foreign participation was from The Netherlands.

Pramod Kumar, President, ISB&M, said standards and systems in Indian educational institutions need to be “benchmarked” to global norms. The ISB&M, he said, is developing exchange programmes in collaboration with business schools in The Netherlands.

Dr. Albert Brouwers, Programme Manager at the International Business Management Studies’ School of Economics in Amsterdam, told The Hindu that while business schools need to keep their curriculum relevant to the needs of companies, it was also important that “they do not lose sight of their core academic values”. He explained that during an upswing of economic activity, when there is a shortage of skills, businesses demand new skills which are generally in short supply. This creates demand for new skills specialisations. However, during times of slow growth, as the economy enters a downturn, demand for educated talent will falter. “Business schools,” he said, “will need to maintain equanimity, keeping their horizon fixed on the long-term.”
