Almost all the business establishments were closed in the temple town. Handloom and powerloom units in the town’s periphery, however, functioned uninterrupted. In Chennimalai the 12-hour bandh also saw theatres suspending morning shows. All political parties in the town participated in the protest. No incidence of violence was reported. Similarly in Erode, lawyers boycotted court in support of the Hogenakkal drinking water scheme. Hundreds of lawyers in the 37 courts in the district did not participate in proceedings on Tuesday.
