BHUBANESWAR: Continuing with their investigation into the alleged sexual harassment of suspended lady marshal of the State Assembly Gayatri Panda, the police on Tuesday questioned Assembly Secretary Kishore Chandra Barik in connection with the case. In charge of the women’s police station Bilasini Nayak and another woman police officer recorded Mr. Barik’s statement by questioning him in his office. The police had started questioning the Assembly employees after they recorded the statement of Ms. Panda by visiting her home in the Mahanga area of Cuttack district. According to sources, the police were likely question former Assembly Speaker Maheswar Mohanty who has been named accused in the case soon. The State Commission for Women is also conducting an inquiry into the matter. The Commission has already recorded the statements of Ms. Panda and Mr. Mohanty. The government has also requested the State Human Rights Commission to probe the matter. But the Commission has not started its probe so far. Meanwhile, the Women and Child Development Department issued instructions to District Collectors in the State to take steps to ensure that organisations receiving government grants had the arrangement to deal with complaints of sexual harassment at workplace.
