M.G. Sasi THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Adayalangal, directed by M.G. Sasi and produced by Aravind Venugopal, has won the State awards for the best feature film and best director of 2007. Its photographer and processing laboratory have also won awards. Orekadal, directed by Syamaprasad and produced by N.B. Vindhyan, has been chosen the second best film. It has won three other awards. Adoor Gopalakrishnan’s Nalu Pennungal has to be satisfied with just two awards in the technical category. Mohanlal has been adjudged the best male actor and Meera Jasmine the best female actor for their roles in Paradesi and Orekadal respectively. Murali has won the award for the second best actor (Veeralipattu, Pranayakalam) and Lakshmi Gopalaswami for the second best actress (Thaniye). Jayasree Sivadas has got the award for the best child artist (Oridathoru Puzhayundu). Jagathy Sreekumar has won a special jury award for his performances in Paradesi, Veeralipattu and Arabikatha. Vijay Yesudas (son of playback singer K.J. Yesudas) and Swetha (daughter of Sujatha), who sang the duet Olakuzhalvili ketto Radhe... in Nivedhyam have been adjudged the best playback singers.

Radhakrishnan (Adayalangal); screenplay — Sathyan Anthikkad (Vinodayatra); lyrics — Rafeek Ahmed (Pranayakalam, Etho vidooramam…); music direction (lyrics) — M. Jayachandran (Nivedhyam); and background music direction — Ouseppachan (Orekadal). Editing — Vinod Sukumaran (Orekadal); Art direction — Rajasekharan (Nalu Pennungal); sound recording — T. Krishnanunni (Ottakkaiyyan); film processing — Prasad Film Lab (Adayalangal); makeup – Pattanam Rasheed (Paradesi); costume — S.B. Satheesan (Nalu Pennungal); dubbing — Zeenath (for Swetha Menon in Paradesi); choreography — Brinda (Vinodayatra). Kathaparayumbol, directed by M. Mohanan and produced by Mukesh and Sreenivasan, has bagged the award for popular film with artistic merit. Babu Thiruvalla has won the award for the best debutant director (Thaniye). Kaliyorukkam, directed by S. Sunil and produced by K.V. Sreedharan, has got award for the best children’s film. Before the Brush Dropped, about the artistic life of Raja Ravi Varma, directed by Vinod Mankara and produced by A.V. Anoop, has won the award for the best documentary.
The jury, headed by Jahnu Barua, made a special mention of the acting of T.G. Ravi in the films Adayalangal and Ottakkaiyyan. Education Minister M. A. Baby, who announced the awards here on Tuesday, said no award had been recommended for the best short film and best director of children’s film this year. Salabha Chirakukal Kozhiyunna Charitra Sisirathil, written by N.P. Sajeesh, has won the award for the best book on cinema. Kaanathaya Purushan Kazchapedunna Cinema, written by K.P. Jayakumar, has won the award for the best article.
