MADURAI: The Madurai Kamaraj University has instructed all its aided colleges to have separate teaching staff for self-financed courses and not to engage those appointed in the aided courses’ category. A communication was shot off last week to Principals of all aided colleges affiliated to MKU citing the resolution of the Academic Council that met in March. Dean (College Development Council) S. David Amirtha Rajan told The Hindu here on Tuesday that the university had to intervene in this issue following complaints and representations received about some aided colleges having the same set of teaching staff for both aided and self-financing courses. “Teachers who are appointed for aided courses should not be exploited. We came to know that aided colleges which are offering self-financed courses are asking teachers to handle both segments,” he said and added that principals had been asked to ensure strict compliance of the university direction. In another communication to principals, Dr. Amirtha Rajan said that appointments for the lecturer post in self-financing arts/science colleges and self-financed courses in aided colleges should be made in accordance with Government norms and regulations of University Grants Commission. “A number of complaints have been received by the university that lecturers are being appointed in self-financed courses without having minimum qualification prescribed by authorised bodies….or the regulations of UGC. Hence, the colleges have been persistently directed to follow norms …and, however, it is noticed that some of the institutions are not properly following the instructions of the university,” the Dean’s letter pointed out.
