Tax for non-transport vehicles

Chennai: The Transport Department has announced that tax for non-transport vehicles will be collected at all city regional transport offices, unit offices and special counters.

The tax will be collected till April 10, 2008, on all days except Sundays and government holidays. A release from the Transport Department said tax collection had been computerised in the regional offices this year.

Producing the vehicle at the time of tax payment is required only for vehicles over 15 years old. Upon inspection of the vehicle, registration is renewed for a period of five years. In these cases, tax payment must be made in the regional transport offices or unit offices concerned.
