World Health Day: call for stringent laws to check environmental pollution

BANGALORE: Noted film-maker and environmentalist Suresh Heblikar on Tuesday emphasised the need for stringent laws to check the increasing environmental pollution, which is leading to various health problems. Political will
Mr. Heblikar said strict laws to check pollution had not been framed in the country because of the lack of “political will”. He made these remarks in the context of this year’s theme for the World Health Day: “Protecting health from climate changes”.
Chief Secretary to the Government of Karnataka Sudhakar Rao, said that the Government had taken up a programme to create awareness among the public on ‘protecting health from climate changes’.
Such programmes would be held at primary health centres also, he said.
