ICF, SAI enter semifinals

CHENNAI: ICF and SAI moved into the semifinals on Tuesday in the Deccan Chronicle Trophy football tournament at the Nehru Stadium here.

ICF notched up a 3-0 win over Soccer Club after leading 1-0 at the half-way stage. Jegan Jr. had brought the lead in the sixth minute for ICF.

Suresh Kumar made the most of a Dhadeus pass in the 44th minute and in the 73rd minute, Dhadeus helped himself to a goal. Defender Amritha Raja of ICF was declared the Man of the Match.

Earlier, a youthful SAI, which was an impressive performer in the recent senior division league, brought down the promoted side Southern Railway 2-0, scoring once in each half. Elamurugan headed in the first goal after Chinniah provided the assist.

Four minutes from time (76th), promising midfielder Pradeep paved the way for Suryakumar to slam in the second goal. Pradeed earned the Man of the Match award.

Volleyball tournament

The Nellai Friends and Dr. Sivanthi Club will conduct the annual John Memorial volleyball tournament at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium from April 22 to 27.

KSEB (Thiruvananthapuram), BPCL (Kochi), Cochin Port Trust, Indian Overseas Bank, Indian Bank, Southern Railway, SDAT and ICF will figure in the men’s section, while Western Railway (Mumbai), Central Railway (Mumbai), KSEB (Thiruvananthapuram), Southern Railway and Dr. Sivanthi Club will take part in the women’s section.

The matches will be played under floodlights. Apart from the Daily Thanthi Trophy for men, and Parimalar Rolling Trophy for women there are cash prizes worth Rs. 2,20,000.

The tournament is being sponsored by Panimalar Engineering College.

Coaching camp

The Tennis Training Centre is conducting summer coaching camps for boys and girls below 18 years at its premises located in the D.G. Vaishnav College campus, Arumbakkam from April 16 to 30 and from May 2 to 31.
