Bangalore
(Clockwise from top) Himashri C., Abhishek S., Rakshitha S.M., Harshith S., Namrata P.S. and Mohammed Imran. Bangalore: The two-month vacation is not spent doing what one loves. While a few zealous children claimed to love going to summer camps, there were a few who seemed to have reconciled to the fact that they have no say in the matter. The Hindu spoke to six children attending different summer camps in the city to find out what they thought about them (camps). Harshith S., ninth standard, Aurobindo Vidya Mandir: I have just enrolled into a swimming camp. I also go to three different camps — one for karate, cricket and another to learn how to play the keyboard. I like to have something to do in the summer. It is better than sitting at home and complaining about boredom. Mohammed Imran, eighth standard, Wesley Memorial Convent: I have been attending camps every summer. I like going to camps. I want to keep myself occupied and learn new things. It is boring to have to sit at home and do nothing. I am attending three camps — a karate camp, a swimming camp and computer class. This way, I get to learn things that will surely help me in future. Rakshitha S.M., seventh standard, Assumption English School: This is the first summer camp I am attending. I like it so far. I have made new friends and it is nice to meet children my own age from different schools. I joined the swimming camp because I wanted to grow tall and become strong. This camp is only for a month. After that, I plan to go visit my grandparents. Namrata P.S., eighth standard, Ramakrishna High School, Shimoga: I am from Shimoga. I came to Bangalore to join the swimming camp with my cousin. This is the first summer camp that I am attending. There are no camps in Shimoga. So, this is a new experience for me. I hope to come to Bangalore every vacation and join some summer camp. Abhishek S., fourth standard, KLE School: I like to draw and paint. So, my parents let me join the summer camp at the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath. This is the first time I have joined a summer camp. Earlier, my parents did not let me go to any camp, as they thought I was too young. Himashri C., ninth standard, Sri Vidya Mandir: I have been attending summer camps since I was in fifth standard. Every year, I got to a different summer camp. So far, I have attended dance and music camps. This year, I wanted to join an art class.
