Woman murdered by husband

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: An alleged disturbed relationship between a married couple came to a tragic end with a man allegedly murdering his 31-year-old wife in J.P. Nagar 1st phase on Monday night.

The incident came to light only on Tuesday evening when the accused called the victim’s brother and allegedly confessed about the crime.

According to the police, D. Koushalya, a teacher, and her husband, L. Channappa, a taxi driver, were residing on the second floor of her father’s house with their two children. On Tuesday, the two children — Koushik (10) and Koustub (8) — who were sleeping in a separate room on the second floor, informed Koushalya’s father, Doddegowda, a retired police sub-inspector, that their parents had locked the house.

Mr. Doddegowda assumed the couple might have gone for work. He got worried when they did not return till afternoon. He and his son, Shivaswamy, started making calls to check the whereabouts of the couple.

Around 5.30 p.m., Channappa called Shivaswamy and reportedly told him that he had murdered Koushalya. Shivaswamy then informed the police, who broke open the lock and entered the house and found Koushalya’s body lying on the bed.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) S. Ravi said Koushalya was strangled to death.

The police are searching for Channappa, a native of Malur near Channapatna.

A distraught Doddegowda said Koushalya had frequent quarrels with her husband, who is an alcoholic.
