Swraj Paul calls on Buddhadeb

Special Correspondent

KOLKATA: Non-resident Indian industrialist Lord Swraj Paul on Tuesday described West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee as “very forthcoming, open and down to earth”.

Lord Paul, who called on Mr Bhattacharjee here, later said what was discussed was “what we can do to help West Bengal, not only in trade and investment but also in other areas like education and culture.”

He and his associates who comprise a high-level delegation of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, United Kingdom branch, that is visiting the State, are trying to find out “what message we can take home to raise the level of information about West Bengal in the United Kingdom,” Lord Paul said.

‘Impressive economic growth’

On his return to the United Kingdom he would be informing the House of Lords of his impressions on West Bengal, while British MP Ashok Kumar, who is also in the delegation, would speak about his impressions in the House of Commons.

“West Bengal’s economic growth is impressive. It is the third highest in the country,” Lord Paul added.
