Little writers, artists hone their skills
Staff Reporter
Chennai: AID India, a non-governmental organisation, recently organised a ‘little writers festival’ for children.
The festival was held at Bala Mandir Primary School in T. Nagar for a group of 90 children, who were winners of a story writing and illustration competition held at the block level across Tamil Nadu.
AID India had organised the contests in Vembakkam, Sivagangai, Soolagiri, Thirupparangundram, Nilakottai, Minjur, Kuvathur, Vandavasi and Panavaram.
Around 50 children from each block participated in a workshop to hone their writing and drawing skills. They were taught to write stories on a specific theme and how to develop the characters in their stories.
The little artists of the group worked on coming up with suitable pictures to enhance the story appeal.
Children were trained to draw pictures from story cards and posters and encouraged to develop their own style. The artists and writers were paired in such a way that a student came up with a story and his or her partner illustrated it.
Five pairs were chosen from each block to attend the ‘Eureka Little Writers Festival’ in Chennai.
Games, puppetry
The two-day programme comprised games, puppetry and a magic show.
They drew, painted, wrote and made new friends. Volunteers from AID India and resource persons from various fields conducted the shows.
