Rs. 5 crore released to Gadag district for relief work Team members assess damage caused to crops GADAG: Union Joint Secretary of Home Ramesh Abhishek has said that the Central team, which visited the rain affected areas of Gadag district on Tuesday, would submit its report to the Centre soon. Mr. Abhishek, who led the team, told presspersons at Ron in Gadag on Tuesday that the team members had gone to the affected villages and assessed the damages to standing crops. Similar teams had gone to Bijapur and Belgaum to assess the damages. The reports of all teams would be compiled and then discussed before submitting a comprehensive report to the Centre, he said. Regional Commissioner of Belgaum Amita Prasad told presspersons that Rs. 5 crore had been released to Gadag district for taking up flood relief measures. She said the district administration had sent proposals for permanently shifting the 10 flood-prone villages in the district of which the State Government had released Rs. 1 crore for shifting Kurlageri in Naragund taluk and Holemannur in Ron taluk. VisitEarlier, the team visited several villages in Naragund and Ron taluk that were affected by the unseasonable rains in March. Apart from Mr. Abhishek, representative of the Department of Finance (Expenditure) Mithilesh and Under Secretary of State Revenue Department M.S. Desai interacted with farmers and personally inspected damages to the standing crops in farmlands. The team members visited Bairanahatti, Konnur, Kallapur, Shirol in Naragund taluk and Holemannur, Gadagoli, Ron and Honniganuru in Ron taluk and assessed the damages caused to the crops of wheat, jowar, maize, sunflower, agase (flax seed) and kadale (chick pea). The team sought information from officials on the damages caused to roads and bridges and other infrastructure and visited some places. Regional Commissioner Amita Prasad, In-charge Deputy Commissioner P. Subrahmanyam, zilla panchayat Chief Executive Officer B.F. Patil and Assistant Commissioner G.L. Praveenkumar accompanied the team members. ReviewMr. Abhishek held a review meeting on Tuesday on the relief measures undertaken by the district administration and asked the officials to provide a comprehensive survey and assessment report. Providing information about the loss, Assistant Commissioner G.L. Praveen Kumar put the loss at Rs. 231.57 crore and said Rs. 46.89 crore was required for relief work.
