Rupee edges up

MUMBAI: The rupee closed barely changed at 39.99/40.00 against the dollar in lacklustre trading on Wednesday due to wide expectations that the central bank might allow the rupee to appreciate in view of high inflation rate. It closed at 40.02 on Tuesday.

Forex dealers said a large corporate sold dollars during the pre-close session.

The rupee resumed steady at 40.01/02 and touched a low of 40.04. It also drew support from firm domestic equity markets.

In overseas markets, the dollar remained flat on Tuesday. — PTI
