Sunday market traders to stage demonstration

PUDUCHERRY: The Sunday Market Traders’ Union will stage a demonstration on April 14 to protest the delay in erecting streetlights in the southern part of Gandhi Street.

The association said in a release that there were no streetlights in this part of the area. Despite submitting a complaint to the electricity division office at Thambunaiyakar Street, no action had been taken till date, the association said.

The association said the fee at the pay-and-use toilets at the Big Market should be reduced for the Sunday traders. They had also urged the municipality to make arrangements for adequate mobile toilets on Sundays. Closure of daily shops on Sundays and ban on the movement of motor and heavy vehicles inside the Sunday market were other demands of the association.
