Maize on 1,256 hectares damaged

VIZIANAGARAM: Heavy rain accompanied by strong gales that lashed Merakamudidam, Gajapathinagaram, Poosapatirega, Salur, Denkada, Garividi and Nellimarla mandals last week damaged maize crop on an extent of 1,256 hectares. This was in addition to the crop damaged on an extent of 841 ha in the last week of March.

The crop was raised in an extent of 8,786 ha in the district, said In-charge Joint director (Agriculture) G. Narimani. She told reporters on Wednesday that apart from maize, til crop in 478 ha and green gram in 158 in Balijipeta mandal were damaged.
