Bangalore: Four political parties have forged a common front to fight the coming Assembly elections on the common progressive issues relating to the rights of Dalits, farmers and workers, and the issue of secularism.

Called Janapara Rajakeeya Ranga — comprising the Sarvodaya Karnataka Paksha, Communist Party of India (CPI), Republican Party of India (RPI) and All India Forward Bloc — it will field candidates in 50 constituencies.

Speaking to presspersons here on Wednesday, well-known writer and Sarvodaya Paksha leader Devanoor Mahadeva said that an intervention by activists and intellectuals was necessary to free politics from the grip of communal forces, mining lobby, land mafia and anti-social elements which are “pushing democracy towards extinction.”

“If we do not wake up now, by next elections not only votes but entire constituencies will be up for sale,” said Mr. Mahadeva.

Siddanagowda Patil of the CPI said that wherever the Janapara Rajakeeya Ranga does not field it own candidates, it will support parties which have a non-communal agenda and have no alliances with any communal parties. The list of candidates and common manifesto of Janapara Raajakeeya Ranga will be released within three days.
