NEW DELHI: Junior engineers with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi were allotted over 350 laptops by Mayor Arti Mehra at a ceremony here on Wednesday. Speaking on the occasion, the Mayor said the recently developed “Engineering Department Information System (EDIS)” was an online working software that eased transformation of working from manual mode to the electronic mode. “The system is unique in the sense that it will be first of its kind to be implemented in any department in the government sector. The civic body has procured 350 laptops in the first phase. The next phase of procurement and distribution of laptops will be completed soon so that all our engineers are equipped with the device,” she added. The EDIS comprises different modules relating to different activities of the Engineering Department. “It is a software that provides for all activities of the department to be conducted online and even circulation of in-house documents will be in electronic format. Manual file transition will be gradually phased out,” she added. One of the characteristics of the software is that it shows the number of pending tasks and their status as soon as a user logs into the system. The software is being implemented module by module with the technical laboratory module already in use.
