DGCA to inspect BIAL on April 17 High Court Round-Up
Staff Reporter
BANGALORE: The Centre on Wednesday informed the Karnataka High Court that the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) would inspect the Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) at Devanahalli on April 17.
Assistant Solicitor-General (ASG) Aravind Kumar, who appeared for the Centre, made the statement when the court was hearing several public interest litigation (PIL) petitions against the proposed closure of HAL Airport and lack of connectivity between Bangalore and the new airport. The Bench adjourned further hearing on the case to Thursday.
Admitted
A Division Bench admitted a PIL petition by U.S. Manu Kumar of Maddur, who had challenged the action of the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation in permitting a mid-way plaza on the Bangalore-Mysore highway near Maddur.
The petitioner alleged that there were several irregularities in the award of the contract and urged the court to intervene. The Bench ordered issue of notices to the State, KSRTC and other respondents.
Adjourned
A Division Bench adjourned to Friday a PIL by A.V. Amarnathan seeking direction of the authorities not to evict physically challenged people from manning telephone booths in bus stands and railway stations in Bangalore.
