HYDERABAD: Expressing concern over what it termed ‘institutionalised political corruption’ in Andhra Pradesh, the Lok Satta Party on Wednesday demanded constitution of special courts to try cases allegedly involving elected representatives and senior officials. In a bid to bring to notice the growing corruption and the need to plug it, the party organised several protest marches and impromptu meetings in many districts and protesting against the ‘escapist tendencies’ of the Congress and the Telugu Desam Party. At one such programme in the State Capital, party general secretary D.V.V.S. Varma regretted the no-confidence motion moved by the TDP and said all those hours of debate in the budget session of the Assembly would not end in concrete decisions and action against ‘corrupt forces’. He led the march from Ramnagar to Sundaraiah Vignana Kendram in Bagh Lingampally. Unless corruption was tackled, the fruits of development would not reach the common man, he said. Effigy burntParty workers burnt a 10-headed ‘MLA effigy’ to drive home the reality that money was made in postings and transfers, construction of roads, buildings and other projects and grant of pensions and houses. Among those who participated in the protest was Garimalla Narayana, who was leading the party’s ‘Surajya’ movement.
