A touching presentation by Angul’s Pranati Mohanty Documentary on Keulucharan screened on the occasion BHUBANESWAR: It has been a belated but a befitting beginning in memory of the man whose name sounds synonymous with Odissi dance. On Monday, six senior disciples of Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra put up a dance recital in the city on his fourth death anniversary that was aptly names as "Remembering Guruji". City-based Italian dancer Padma Shri Ileana Citaristi, who has authored the biography of the late legend, was the woman behind the event. Her cultural institution ‘Art Vision’ hosted it at the Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyala auditorium. The highlight of the event was presentation of several old choreographic compositions of the guru. Highlight
The inaugural recital, a ‘Mangalacharan’ in praise of Lord Ganesh that was choreographed in the 60’s was presented by Cuttack-based Meera Das. It was followed by ‘Saberi Pallavi’ by Muktilata Pal of the city-based Odissi Research Centre. While Angul’s Pranati Mohanty made a touching presentation of ‘Chandan Charchita’ episode from Jayadev’s ‘Geet Govind’, Bhubaneswar-based Itishree Dwibedy also had an equally impressive expressional dance performance in another episode from the Geet Govind ‘Dhira Samire’. Interestingly both the dancers returned to stage performance after long breaks. Kolkata-based actress and dancer Nandini Ghosal’s neat presentation of ‘Bihag Pallabi’ offered glimpses of the typical Kelucharan ‘gharana’ while Ileana preferred to present the popular number “Patha chhadide mnu jibi phulatoli’. Curtains came down on the event with all the dancers coming together with the Art Vision troupe in presenting ‘Mokshya’ as a tribute to the Guru. A documentary made on Kelucharan was also screened on the occasion.
