JAIPUR: The three public sector power distribution companies in Rajasthan have set a target of releasing domestic electricity connections to 5 lakh families living below poverty line (BPL) during the current financial year. Besides, as many as 40,000 demand notices for agricultural connections will be issued to the consumers by this month-end. Rajasthan Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Chairman Shrimat Pandey and State Energy Secretary Yaduvendra Mathur instructed the discom officials in Jaipur, Ajmer and Jodhpur at a video conference meeting here to complete the task within the scheduled time-frame. Mr. Pandey said the second phase of work for issuing demand notices would start in July, while the feeder renovation programme would be completed by June. He asked the discom officials to keep up constant vigil to give permanence to the benefits of power sector reforms. Mr. Mathur said the discoms would shortly get the lists of farmers affected by frost and cold wave earlier this year from District Collectors to facilitate waiver of their electricity bills. The statistics of feeder renovation programme will be sent to the Rajasthan power utilities project monitoring cell. Jaipur discom Chairman and Managing Director R.G. Gupta said the transmission and distribution losses in the region had been reduced by 4.73 per cent during the last financial year. S.R. Bansal of Ajmer discom and B.C. Mathur of Jodhpur discom also attended the meeting.
