Harassment charge against BU teacher

Staff Reporter

Fact-finding team to be constituted to probe charge

Teacher denies charge, ready to face inquiry

BERHAMPUR: Allegations of harassment against a teacher made by a former girl student rocked Berhampur University. The girl was the student of the biotechnology department of the university in the 2005-07 batch.

Complaint

She on Tuesday submitted a complaint to Vice-Chancellor B.K. Sahu against former coordinator of the biotechnology department Ashok Panigrahy.

She also alleged that she had not been able to pass the course due to Mr Panigrahy.

When contacted the Post Graduate (PG) council chairman of the university Bauribandhu Kar confirmed that the girl had lodged a written complaint against Mr Panigrahy.

But he did not speak on the details of allegation in the letter with the plea that he had not seen it.

A fact-finding committee to investigate the allegations made by the girl would be constituted on April 11.

Sailabala Padhi, the present coordinator of the biotechnology department and the chairperson of the Women’s Harassment Complaint Cell of the university told newsmen that she had not yet received the complaint letter so no action was taken till now.

According to sources the final fourth semester result of the girl had been withheld as she had not submitted seminar papers related to her third semester examination in time.

The result was out recently and the girl found that she had failed due to low marks in her seminar paper.

The girl started alleging that she had been given less marks by Mr Panigrahy intentionally.

Speaking to newsmen on Wednesday Mr Panigrahy denied the charges being made against him.

He said he was ready to face any kind of enquiry that may be initiated to investigate into the allegations made by the girl.
