Probe panel indicts three teachers

Correspondent

BHUBANESWAR: The much awaited report of the committee probing the alleged sexual harassment case in the city-based Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya has pointed out its fingers towards the three accused teachers. It has further recommended 15 major reformations in the premiere institution’s administrative and academic set up.

Following the students’ agitation on March 14 over the issue that turned the college campus violent, Culture Minister S.N. Patro had appointed a three-member committee to probe the matter.

13-page report

In its 13-page report based on 277 allegations and opinions, the committee has indicated that the allegations made by the students are true.

It has also suggested that the accused teachers should not be allowed to continue further in the college.

Majority of the allegations have gone against the Chhau dance teacher Bhawani Charan Biswal, who was also continuing as an officer-on-special duty with the Utkal University of Culture.

Recast

The committee has suggested the government to appoint a principal with administrative efficiency for the college. It has also recommended a re-cast of the academic and administrative set up of the institution while urging the agitating students to restore normalcy on the campus.
