THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Cabinet has formed a sub-committee to tackle flash floods in Thiruvananthapuram city. Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan told the media after Wednesday’s Cabinet meeting that reasons for the flash floods had to be looked into in detail. If engineers in the State could not find a solution, experts from outside the State would be consulted. The Chief Minister recalled that every year crores of rupees had been spent on projects supposed to remove the bottlenecks in the drains of the city. However, clogging continued to occur every year. This year also, the engineers had come up with new projects. He had asked Public Works Minister Mons Joseph to examine whether it was on the same lines as the projects implemented in the previous years. He said that a delegation led by poetess Sugathakumari had submitted a memorandum to him on Tuesday about the flash floods.
