HYDERABAD: The newly appointed Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president D. Srinivas is all set to give a new look to his team at the State level and also change a couple of district unit chiefs in a bid to gear up for the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections in 2009. The present PCC executive committee functionaries were appointed by then party chief M. Satyanarayana Rao in 2001, who continue till date. Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam and Visakhapatnam City, East Godavari and Medak were headed by sitting MLAs, while three MLCs lead the party in Vizianagaram, Prakasam and Warangal districts. The APCC president told reporters here on Wednesday that plans were afoot to revamp the district units. “Wherever the district units are weak, new president will be appointed in due course,” he said adding that reports were being sought from the districts about the party’s position and functioning. ‘Prajapatham’The PCC chief will be launching his district tours on Thursday from Nalgonda, where he would participate in the ‘Prajapatham’ programme. Earlier, he participated in the foundation day celebrations of the National Students Union of India at Gandhi Bhavan. NSUI State unit chief Ch. Vamsi Chand Reddy was present. Meet tomorrowThe PCC chief would conduct an interaction session with the heads and office-bearers of the frontal organisations, departments and cells on April 11. Meanwhile, Mr. Srinivas said that the Congress need not do a big exercise to select candidates for the byelections to 16 seats vacated by the TRS. When it was pointed out that other parties had already finalised their nominees, he said as and when the notification was issued, the party would select its candidates. Asked to comment on the readiness of Mr. Mallu Ravi, by Special Representative to the Government in New Delhi, to contest the Jadcherla Assembly seat, he said that it showed his confidence to fight the polls from a general seat. He clarified that the party’s State election committee would decide on his candidature. To a question on CPI(M) secretary B.V. Raghavulu’s remarks that his party was in favour of a non-Congress, non-BJP alliance, he said any realignment of political forces would usually take place four or five months before the elections. No commentsHe declined to comment on the remarks made by APSRTC chairman M. Satyanarayana Rao’s that development would not work in the face of Telangana sentiment in the bypolls. Meanwhile, the Congress Legislature Party has written an open letter to Mr. Raghavulu criticising his call to Opposition parties to launch an agitation against the price rise.
