24-hour working of goods sheds deferred
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The round-the-clock functioning of 18 goods sheds in Southern Railway, including eight in Kerala, has been deferred till July. A release from the Southern Railway headquarters said the decision followed representations from trade and goods shed workers. The goods sheds that were nominated for round-the-clock functioning from April 1, as per a policy decision, were Kallai, Valapatnam, West Hill, Aluva, Ernakulam, Kottayam, Kollam and Kalamaserry. The extension of the working hours is directed at speeding up loading and unloading of wagons, thereby improving the availability of wagons to meet the increased demand for freight transportation. – Staff Reporter
