Youth arrested on rape charge
Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD: Mohd. Shahed, who allegedly kidnapped, raped and tried to kill a seven-year-old girl at Kulsumpura a month ago, was arrested by the police on Wednesday.
A welder from Mustahidpura, the 20-year-old accused went to meet his friend Raheem’s grocery store on March 10 at Subzimandi in Kulsumpura, and saw the girl, who set out to buy snacks, walking alone on the road.
Shahed lured the girl to the abandoned APCO mills at Panni Pura colony by offering chocolates. There, he confined her in a room and sexually assaulted her, West Zone DCP N.Madhusudhan Reddy said. Scared of being caught if the girl revealed anything about the assault, Shahed strangled her with a ribbon. He left the place as the girl fell unconscious thinking that she was dead.
While the girl was found lying injured at the abandoned mill the next day, the accused could not be arrested immediately. Police initially rounded up 42 suspects based on the description of the accused given by the girl. Based on the facial features of the suspect given by a grocery store owner, the investigators narrowed down on Shahed who confessed to the offences during interrogation.
