Experience saves Karnataka XI
MUMBAI: The youngsters from Amritsar’s Maharaja Ranjit Singh Academy matched Karnataka XI move for move in an entertaining match at the 46th Bombay Gold Cup Hockey Pool C quarterfinal league.
The latter, on the strength of experience won 5-2, for a place in the semifinals.
Ronald Kiran fired home two direct penalty corner hits for pool topper Karnataka XI. The academy boys impressed with their stick-work and body movements.
Didar Singh, continuing his goal-scoring act, added three more to his overall tally as Indian Oil Corporation beat Bombay Engineering Group, Pune, 4-1, in another league tie at the Mahindra stadium to decide pool placing.

Pool C (quarterfinals): Karnataka XI 5 (Ronald Kiran 2, Anup Anthony, M K Mudappa, Dinesh K P) bt Maharaja Ranjit Singh Academy 2 (Navjot Singh, Mandeep Singh); Indian Oil Corporation 4 (Didar Singh 3, Hamza Mujtaba) bt BEG 1 (Tiffil Kujur).
