162 PG medical seats allotted
Staff Reporter
BANGALORE: As many as 162 seats in the post-graduate medical degree course and 66 seats in the post-graduate medical diploma course were allotted on the first day of counselling for the Post Graduate Entrance Test (PGET-2008) held by the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMED-K).
In the first half of the day there was confusion among candidates who protested saying that top rankers who may have secured seats elsewhere were blocking seats in private colleges as a back-up.
Students who attended the first session said that those who have applied to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) and other institutes should not be allowed to take part in the COMED-K counselling.
“When we started off a few students were anxious that some may take more than one seat and they wanted us to prevent them from doing so.
“However, we told them that we cannot take the law into our hands,” said Executive Secretary of the COMED-K.
Spread over six sessions, 296 seats were on offer and 228 of them have been allotted. Three students were debarred for malpractices.
