Govt. staff seek better working conditions

Staff Reporter

ERODE: State Government employees affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Government Employees’ Association staged a day-long dharna in front of the Government Hospital here on Thursday, demanding better working conditions.

Vacant posts

They urged the Government to fill all vacant posts and drop moves to downsize departments. They also asked the Government to abandon modernisation and restructuring, which they termed were ploys to ‘weaken the Government.’

In the day-long dharna, which saw employees from Coimbatore, the Nilgris, Erode, Namakkal, Salem, Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts participate, the association members also demanded parity in payment.

They complained that the Government constitute an expert committee to look into the disparity in payment for technical staff. They also wanted the Chief Minister to fulfil his promise of recognising employees’ unions.
