More companies of Eco Task Force for Uttarakhand

Staff Correspondent

DEHRA DUN: The Centre has sanctioned the raising of four more companies of the Eco Task Force in Uttarakhand.

Being seen as a victory for Chief Minister Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri who had strongly pushed the case before the Centre, the new companies when raised will be deployed in the Garhwal and Kumaon regions to tame the fragile ecology, officials said.

Comprising ex-Servicemen, the Eco Task Force or the Territorial Army Battalions have, over the past several years, done an exemplary job in taming the badly mauled Mussoorie hills and the adjoining areas besides working in other areas of the State.

The sanction opens up re-employment opportunities for over 400 ex-Servicemen.
