Canals to be closed from April 15

Kakinada: All the canals and drains of river Godavari will be closed for annual maintenance for 70 days from April 15, instead of April 10 which was the original schedule. The Rural Water Supply (RWS) Department has been ordered by District Collector Gopalakrishna Dwivedi to take steps for mitigating drinking water scarcity, particularly inrural areas.

At a meeting of the Irrigation and RWS Departments, Collector Dwivedi sought focus to be laid on the coastal mandals of Uppalaguptam, Katrenikona, Razolu, Sakhinetipalli, P.Gannavaram, Tallarevu and I.Polavaram, for which an action plan costing Rs 3.55 crore was prepared.
