Portal provides support to weavers in all major areas Handloom industry unorganised; vital issues not solved TIRUPATI: D.C. Lodha, CEO of the Handlooms.Com -- a vertical portal on the world’s handloom textile industry -- has said that the key to the problems plaguing the handloom sector lay in customising the products besides adapting to emerging technologies to suit the varying tastes of buyers. Addressing mediapersons here on Thursday, he said the portal would provide support to the weaver community in all the major areas by creating a direct express link between all the intermediate buyers, raw material suppliers and the importers directly. This would reduce the cost and ensure more profits to the weavers, he said. He said the industry was so unorganised that vital issues were left unaddressed. The issues he cited in this connection were: fashion designing, international trends, selected colours, technological upgradation, patent registration, selection of yarns and customisation. Mr. Lodha said that this coupled with the problem of lack of proper information regarding the real manufacturing centres and the master weavers and artisans have not caught the attention of the overseas bulk buyers. Based on what he called his deep study on the sector, Mr. Lodha said he still visualised ‘tremendous growth’ potential of the industry.
