Kozhikode: The Kozhikode District and Sessions Court on Thursday sentenced a youth to four years rigorous imprisonment and also awarded a penalty of Rs.50,000 for keeping in his possession counterfeit currency notes. Principal Session Court Judge N.K. Balakrishnan found Zakir Hussain, 35, of Vazhakkad, Malappuram, guilty under Section 489-C (possession of forged or counterfeit currency notes or bank notes) of Indian Penal Code. The Perambra police had taken Hussain and his accomplice Thottathil Ibrahim, 36, into custody on March 2, 2002 on charges of possessing counterfeit currency notes. Over 100 currency notes in the denominations of Rs.100 and Rs.50 were recovered from them. Ibrahim later secured bail and now is at large.
