Relief for riot victims

Special Correspondent

LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh government on Friday will begin distribution of relief to those affected during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots in Varanasi. A Home Department spokesman said here on Thursday that Special Secretary (Home) D.K. Gupta would preside over the function in Varanasi. On Saturday, he would hear the affected families.

Early this month, the government constituted a panel to expedite settlement of claims. It would visit districts where the claims had not been settled and assessment of property loss not made.
