Two SIMI activists held

MUMBAI: The crime branch of the Mumbai Police arrested on Thursday two highly qualified activists of the banned terrorist organisation, Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), believed to be close to their top leader and ideologue, Safdar Nagori and also involved in the serial bombing of Mumbai suburban trains, killing 187 commuters and injuring 800 others two years ago.
The two men, Irshad Salim Khan, 37 and Israr Ahmed Abdul Hamid Tailor, 38 have been handed over to the Anti-Terrorist Squad.
When SIMI was banned in 2001, Irshad Khan, a civil engineer, was president of its Maharashtra unit. Israr Ahmed is a computer professional.
