Disband Salwa Judum forthwith: CPI

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Communist Party of India (CPI) has urged the Union Government to immediately disband “Salwa Judum” in Chhattisgarh and stop aiding and abetting it in the name of promoting “local resistance groups.”

In a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil on Thursday, CPI national secretary and MP D. Raja also demanded a high-level independent inquiry into all acts of violence, rape, arson, loot, murder and disappearances by Salwa Judum and paramilitary forces.

Mr. Raja said that adivasis should be allowed to return to their villages and demanded that the government guarantee their rehabilitation.
