VADAIGUDEM (NALGONDA DT.): Unveiling yet another ambitious plan of the Congress Government, Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Thursday announced that farmers would be given nine hours power every day “as early as possible.”

Addressing a public meeting as part of the Praja Patham programme in this village in Bhongir mandal, Dr. Reddy said: “We are trying to supply two more hours of power for farmers as early as possible. I can’t announce the exact date for the implementation of the plan but I can say that farmers would get nine hours of power and all villages would be ensured round-the-clock supply.”

Blames TDP

Blaming the Telugu Desam for the current woes, the Chief Minister said his Government had been strengthening the institutions that were “destabilised by that party.”

“The TD weakened institutions like Genco and failed to focus on the power generation units. We are putting lots of efforts to strengthen such institutions. We may get maximum results in one year,” he said, making it clear that the nine-hour power for farmers would come into force in six to 18 months.

Accompanied by the Pradesh Congress Committee president D.Srinivas, Minister R.Damodar Reddy and the Zilla Parishad Chairperson K.Narayana Reddy, Dr.Reddy offered prayers at the Sri Lakshminarasimha Swamy at Yadagirigutta.

Officials warned

Dr.Reddy warned of taking stern action against the officials and dealers, if they resorted to manipulations in implementing the ambitious Rs 2 a kg rice scheme. He called upon people to be bold to file complaints against errant dealers.

Reacting to the appeals made by Mr.Damodar Reddy and Mr.Narayana Reddy, the Chief Minister announced Rs.50 crore to cater to the drinking water needs of Alair.

Fluoride problem

He further announced Rs.75 crore to supply Krishna water to the remaining 36 fluoride-hit villages in the district. “We will find a place in the history by eradicating fluorosis problem from this district,” he said.

A section of Congress leaders led by Vuppunutala Prushottam Reddy, Chairman, Telangana Development Board, stayed away from the meeting.
