Lalu welcomes quota verdict

New Delhi: Terming it as “historic”, Railways Minister Lalu Prasad on Thursday welcomed the Supreme Court’s verdict upholding 27 per cent reservation for OBC students in higher educational institutions, including IITs and IIMs.

“This is a historic verdict and we thank the Supreme Court for it,” Mr. Prasad told reporters here.

Terming it as a step by the UPA towards social justice, he said the verdict would benefit the OBC students.

About the creamy layer issue, Mr. Prasad said, “there will be discussion on it at the government level.”
