HYDERABAD: An under-trial of Chanchalguda jail, Md. Nayeem, was found in possession of a mobile phone on the jail premises on Thursday. The jail authorities handed over the mobile phone to the Dabeerpura police for investigation after launching a department inquiry to find out how he managed to secure mobile phone inside the jail premises. During routine checks at the barrack in the morning, the jail warders found that Nayeem hid a mobile phone in his clothes, the jail superintendent M. Chandrashekhar told The Hindu. Nayeem was lodged in the jail eight months ago after being arrested by city police in three theft cases. Sources said that Nayeem admitted to jail authorities that he obtained the phone from another prisoner Vinod Ramboli Singh of Mumbai, who was arrested in the sensational Joy Alukkas jewellery shop heist case. Singh, it is learnt, confessed to have got the phone from co-prisoner Mahmood. Incoming calls could be received but the phone’s outgoing call facility was locked. “The data of missed calls and received calls proved that most of them originated from Mumbai pointing the needle of suspicion towards Singh, ” a jail official said.
