India Abroad founder Gopal Raju dead

New York: Gopal Raju, who founded the first successful ethnic newspaper India Abroad in the United States, died on Thursday after a brief illness. He was 80.

India Abroad’s popularity increased during the Emergency in India when it provided an outlet for Opposition leaders to vent their feelings, something which was eagerly lapped up by the Diaspora. — PTI
