Trade unions meet to decide on agitation

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: Even as the Lok Sabha is all set to discuss price rise, all major trade unions will meet here on May 13 to decide and announce the launch of a nationwide strike on this issue.

This decision was taken at a meeting of the sponsoring committee of the unions here on Thursday. Their representatives expressed concern over the “unprecedented rise” in the prices of essential commodities and edible items and collapse of the public distribution system, and condemned the recommendations of the Sixth Central Pay Commission. According to All-India Trade Union Congress general secretary Gurudas Dasgupta, the sponsoring committee said the government failed to bring in legislation to provide social security to the unorganised labour and there was a blatant violation of labour laws that called for immediate attention.
