NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Thursday issued a notice to the Central Bureau of Investigation on bail applications by defence dealer Suresh Nanda, his son Sanjiv Nanda and their chartered accountant Bipin Shah in a case of alleged manipulation of evidence of the Barak missile deal in which Suresh Nanda is an accused. Issuing notice to the investigating agency, Justice Rekha Sharma of the Court directed it to file a reply to the bail applications by April 23. Suresh Nanda in his bail application submitted that there was no material with the CBI to nail him down on the allegations as the transcripts of telephonic conversations between the Nandas, the chartered accountant and Income Tax Deputy Director (Investigation) Asutosh Verma did not reveal commission of any offence. Verma is also an accused in this case. He further submitted that the charges levelled against him were bailable ones.A Delhi court had on April 5 refused to grant bail to the accused. Rejecting their bail applications, Special CBI Judge I.K. Kochhar had said the investigation was in an initial stage and releasing them on bail at this point would hamper it . The CBI had arrested the accused persons on March 8 at a hotel in Mumbai. They had allegedly gathered there to discuss alleged manipulation of certain documents relating to the missile deal. The CBI alleged that Verma had recovered the documents during a raid at Nanda’s residence here.
