Goa achieves 100 p.c. financial inclusion

Special Correspondent

PANAJI: “Goa is the third State to achieve 100 per cent financial inclusion,” according to Amarendra Sahoo, Chief General Manager, Rural Planning and Credit Department, Reserve Bank of India(RBI), here on Wednesday.

Mr. Sabhoo was addressing a meeting chaired by Goa Industries Secretary V.K. Jha where he also disclosed that all banks have to work towards giving credit to at least five new industries every quarter. He invited all entrepreneurs to take advantage of these loans and establish industries in Goa.

The Goa State Industries and Commerce Department has decided to join hands with banks in Goa and the Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), representing trade and industry, to carry out a survey of sick units which could benefit from loans, according to Sanjeet Rodrigues, Goa Director of Industries and Commerce.

Consequent to the meeting, the GCCI has urged all industrial units, especially medium, small, tiny, micro and cottage units, which have been refused need-based finance (loans to revive sick units), to contact GCCI.

Manguirish Pai Raiker, Vice-President, GCCI, said that despite the efforts of the Union Government, RBI, and head offices of banks to facilitate and extend credit to industry, some smaller branches do not extend help to entrepreneurs to complete the required formalities and obtain loan. Often they do everything possible to discourage them, he remarked.
