MALAPPURAM: The Malappuram municipality will throw open its much-awaited amusement park at Kottakunnu here on Saturday. Union Minister of State for External Affairs E. Ahamed will dedicate the park to the people of Malappuram at a function to be held in the afternoon. A firstMunicipal chairman Kiliyamannil Yakoob said that it was the first amusement park in the country to be set up by a municipal body. Local Administration Minister Paloli Mohammed Kutty will inaugurate the water-theme park. M. Ummer, MLA, will launch the website of Kottakunnu Amusement Park. The inaugural function will be followed by a musical evening to be held at the Kottakunnu open-air auditorium. The amusement park has been set up on 2.02 hectares of land provided by the District Tourism Promotion Council at a cost of Rs.5 crore. Mr. Yakoob said the park would provide the municipality with a decent revenue to complete its various development projects and launch many more. One and onlyThe amusement park, constructed in less than a year, is the only one in Malappuram district. The park will have two dozen rides to amuse children and elders alike. Rides like ball pool, water shooter, water MGR, family slider and multilane ride are the main attractions of the water-theme park. The park has been constructed on a build-operate-transfer (BOT) basis. The municipal council has stipulated that the operator should not levy more than Rs.200 a person, excluding tax. Entrance feeThe initial entrance fee to the amusement park will be Rs.220 a person, including tax. It will be Rs.175 for children between the height of 90 cm and 136 cm. Children or elders below 90 cm in height need not pay any fees, said Mr. Yakoob. Persons above 55 years of age need to pay only Rs.100.
