New Delhi: Come 2010 and Commonwealth Games will not be the lone mega sports event in Delhi as the capital will also be holding the prestigious shooting World Cup two years from now. The International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF), in its meeting in Beijing on Thursday, allotted the 2010 World Cup to the capital, which would host the event in the month of March, the National Rifles Association of India said in a statement on Friday. Stakes will be high in the event as it would be the first ISSF World Cup from where shooters will qualify for 2012 Olympic Games to be held in London. In all, 15 quota places will be decided for 2012 Olympic Games in the rifle, pistol and shotgun events. “This being the first World Cup, we expect a large number of shooters to participate from all over the world. This event will be conducted on the same ranges where the shooting event of Commonwealth Games 2010 will take place,” NRAI secretary Rajiv Bhatia said. India will also host the Commonwealth shooting championship from February 18-28, 2010, he said. — PTI
